Our Top 10 Apps & Sites

text

When we recently polled American Women of Surrey members for their favorite apps & sites for living in Surrey, they responded enthusiastically. Some of our members have lived here for years, while others are recent arrivals. So while the 'Surrey Stayers' have learned a few tricks over the years, the newcomers have landed on some sites and apps that made their recent migration easier. So listed below are our favorite information sources, print and web, with some 'highly commended'. Note that many sources may also have apps or Twitter feeds not listed separately, so have a look.

  1. AWS - of course - where our members find activities, make new friends, and explore UK and beyond, including our public FB page - click on 'Sign Up' once you've joined AWS and you will be admitted to the closed group; see also our FB Country Hikes page
  2. Expats of Surrey, a closed Facebook group, is the most popular Surrey-based site, so ask someone to invite you to join; meanwhile, other Surrey-based sites include: GetSurrey.co.uk (also available as an app), VisitSurrey.com, London via Surrey, and TheGuide2Surrey.com
  3. The National Trust is the most popular heritage site/app, but English Heritage also gets a mention as does Royal Horticultural Society (HQ'd in Surrey)
  4. Time Out Lonson is the most popular site/app for finding out what's happening in London, with others including Londonist, Visit London, London Town, and The Nudge
  5. Citymapper (web & app) was highly rated for finding your way around, especially by public transport, while @SurreyTravel on Twitter (from BBC Surrey) helps avoid traffic jams
  6. Open Table is popular for booking restaurants, with suggestions and reviews on many of the Surrey sites above, as well as Trip Advisor and Good Pub Guide
  7. Ringo is our favorite app for paying car park fees, but Parkopedia is useful for finding car parks
  8. the National Rail Journey Planner (web or app) is great for researching train journeys and usually offers the best fares
  9. the Met Office (for "Meteorological Office") is best for weather
  10. for those who prefer their information in print form, there are several Life Magazines specific to Cobham, Epsom, Weybridge, Guildford, Esher and Walton-on-Thames
